A Collection of Moments for My Love
Leroy’s prose collection is the companion piece to their debut work, A Collection of Flowers for My Love, and details the highs and lows of love and life through vignettes, flash fiction, and short stories. Through the lens of nature and queerness, the collected works dive into the transformative power of tragedy, the catharsis of survival, and the peace we can find in the end—and how we can be okay.
I wrote this prose collection as a companion piece to my debut poetry collection, A Collection of Flowers for My Love. In this, I wanted to take the ideas that I built my poems from and expand them into something more. As much as I love A Collection of Flowers for My Love, there is always more I can say about what happened and how it changed me. In this collection, I get to explore a more narrative-focused story and emotional revelation through the lens of prose and fiction. If my previous work is for healing, this work is for my joy.
— Leroy
I want to have that courage for you—I want it for me. I want to enter.
I step forward once—breathe—twice—breathe—thrice, and before I can convince myself I don’t belong in a place where no one here has held your hand in the last ten years, I enter your funeral. I don’t think of any of the ghosts that are hung up in your honor. I stare at the roses on the casket. I feel the fury bubble in me, and I cry. I can only think one thing: you deserve more.
